Even My Hamster Has A Goal

posted in Goal Setting, Motivation, True Stories, Success Stories, Take Massive Action, Focus |

Hey Folks,

I hope you have enjoyed the last post and had a better understanding of:

- How simple a goal can be
- How simple it really is to apply goal setting in our daily life
- The benefits of having a goal as opposed to not having one

Do You Have Have A Goal?
I probably don’t know most of you and I have no idea what you went through in your life. Certainly, I have no idea if you had ever set any goals in your life.

My Hamster Has One
But I say if my pet hamster has a goal (that I could see), you probably have one too! Let me show you his goal:

My Pet Hamster
That’s Hammie, Stella’s Pet.

His House
Hammie’s Home Sweet Home

Hammie’s Goal
You can guess what Hammie’s goal really is. No prizes here, he belongs to the rodent family so it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Evidence
Hammie’s Daily Focus

Hammie’s Goal Achieved
Anthony Robbin said that we are either motivated by Pain or Pleasure. Hammie obviously knew how painful it would be for me to replace the cage. So here’s mine solution (He stopped widening the hole after I got him this):

Goals Achieved
Hammie’s Goal Achieved

What About You
Don’t get me wrong! I’m not asking you to inflict pain on someone to achieve your goals. That’s not right!

But tell me, do you have a goal? And have you done anything about it?

Cheers,
James

    Nice illustration again, James.

Yes, I do have goals, vision boards and of course the actions to materialize them.

Sometimes my actions may be wrong (I don’t mean illegal) but who cares, refine it as I go along.

    Thanks for your advice, James.

    I appreciate that. :)

    Hey Raymond,

That’s the spirit! Never procrastinate, draft a plan and work it. Refine along the way and get the results you want! :D

    Hi James,

Love the hamster, very cute…not that he enjoyed being put in that small cage…ha…ha…ha…poor Hammie…but I know what you were trying to do, you were educating him about not making a bigger hole, or else…ha…ha…ha…:) mind you, I hope he learnt his lesson. Just like us…we did not learn our lesson in life as well till we experience pain, ie. people would not stop smoking until they get a heart attack or other serious disease as a warning to their habbit. Even then, some people couldn’t care less, they had a mind set that everyone will die anyway, soon or later. Another interesting point of view, eventhough the question I will ask is: everyone is going to die, and what will you do with your life before you die? Do you want to inflict pain in it or attract pleasure to your life?

Sorry to deviate a bit there, back to goal setting. I have mine put on my vision board to remind me everyday of my goals.

    Good example, James…

    Hey Marta,

I am not sure if I can educate Hammie but I definitely gave him encouragement not to widen that hole.

It’s true most people are motivated by pain. Human tendency is still indulge in Pleasure and avoid pain. That is why a push/pull combination is the most powerful motivator. Imagine the pain if you don’t do what you need to do and visualize the pleasure when you achieve it. Definitely a motivator! :D

Oh, great! Visualize, feel, action and achieve it. :)

    Cheers

I have plenty of goals, James, so that’s not one of my problems. REACHING them is the challenge!

Nice post though, and it reminds me of our lovely belated little friend Matilda–who died in our dining room while in her cage, which looked very much like your hammie’s cage. I used to love holding her in my hand. She would put her little paws together as if she were praying, and raise her little eyes to look us humans straight in the eye. I miss her, of all the pets we had when our daughter was young.

May your hamster live long and always have the spirit to have goals!

    Hi, James,

Just came back from a Coaching and Mentoring Training
Great analogy. Goal along is not enough.

    “It is not enough to take steps that might one day lead to a goal;
each step should in itself, be a goal, and at the same time,
carry us closer to the greater goal.” Goethe

The hamster has a goal, but what is he busy for?

    Hey Lynda,

Thanks for sharing. I love hamsters and Stella love them too. I had nothing less then 30 hamsters in total, at one point or another. This one is still young, probably has another 2 years life span. But Hammie is perhaps the one I adore most. :D

If you wish to overcome the challenges of attaining your goals, try The Ladder of Dreams. It’s a system I developed and it help me attain all the goals I set. I have an ebook launching next month and it is the perfect companion to The Ladder Of Dreams. The concepts also applies to other goal setting tools and systems. So watch out for it. :D

    Cheers

What is hammie so busy for? Let’s see … he’s busy so he can get out :P

    Hey Jenz,

Thank You. That small furry guys may not know how to write a goal but it does know what it wants and focus it’s efforts on doing it. That alone is what we should learn from them. :)
