Can Dreams Be A Good Goal?

Hey Folks,

In our last post, “What Are Goals and Goal Setting?“, I invited you to share with me your opinions and I am very happy that I got a warm response offering different opinions. I love every single one of those comment and I thank you for sharing with me. Keep them coming.

Goals Need to Be Real?
One of the comments in the last post was this:

I disagree with Napoleon Hill’s definition.
Goals are too reality-based to be dreams.

It is a perfectly normal perspective and I was, for the better part of my adult life, thinking the same way. In my ex-profession as an engineer, I had to have goals that stick to reality. No doubt that whatever I plan for was “on solid ground” but the goals always lacks inspiration and excitement. Hence, I never really found anything worth pursuing on a long term basis.

Can Dreams Be A Goal?
Since I embraced the idea that I should set goals that I can dream about, I have found excitement in setting goals again. The excitement drives me forward, drives me to take action and I have found myself in place and situations that I would never otherwise have thought possible. Such as being a full time blogger, such as being able to share my experience and share positive thoughts reaching out to hundreds and thousands of people.

Would all this be possible if I had a reality-based dream? I think not.

Are Dreamy Goals Natural?
In fact, it is my belief that it is a natural thing for us to dream and dream big. Children’s dream a lot. They never really understood the difficulties of achieving what they want but it doesn’t stop them from dreaming. Here are some examples:

- They dream about being famous actors or actresses when they can’t even read a script
- They dream about being doctors even when they are scared stiff at the sight of a nurse with a syringe.
- They dream about being teachers but hate the spelling test they are getting from them

They are not afraid to dream and some of them do become what they dream they would be one day.

So What’s Missing

“If you have built castles in the air,
your work need not be lost;
that is where they should be.
Now put the foundations under them.”
- Henry David Thoreau

So, can dreams become good goals? Absolutely, as dreams are typically inspirational and motivating by nature. You just need to have a direction and a plan to achieve it (that’s the foundation). Does that make sense to you? Now is your turn to talk.

Cheers
James

How To Overcome The 5 Degree Of Fear

Hey Folks,

This post was created as a result of an inspiration from the sharing of a good friend. Enjoy.

Overcome The 5 Degree Of Fear
Fear of Failure - If you have nothing to lose, why fear?

Fear of Failure 2 - If you have a little to lose, lose it and learn how not to fail next time.

Fear of Failure 3 - If you got a lot to lose, lose it too if you deem success more important than what you have to lose.

Fear of Failure 4 - If you have everything to lose, lose it too! Quote me a billionaire who has never lost before.

Fear of Success - It’s funny but true! Sometimes when you are so close to success, you fear that you will make it. Think about all that you have lost to get here and you WILL DO IT!

Learning Experience
Don’t get me wrong, I am not asking you to focus on losing. But all too much time, we hang on to a safety line (that’s the something that we have to lose if we fail).

Cutting this safety line means that you have to fight outside your comfort zone and that’s when you really have a chance to win, to succeed!

Cheers
James

PS: Incidentally, overcoming fear also overcomes most cases of procrastination! :)

How Do You Get Your Motivation?

Hey Folks,

AdvertisementToday I would like to ask you, How Do You Get Motivated?

There are basically 2 types of motivation:

Self Motivation
This is arguably the best form of motivation and it is commonly found in entrepreneurs. In this form, you create or find the reason(s) to be motivated. You know what you desire and usually, your goal or the results of achieving your goal IS your motivation.

People in this category are always looking for challenges, goals, objective, new things to achieve. It does not matter if they failed a hundred times, they will try new ways, new approach or new methods until they succeed!

Also, by being self motivated, you will tend to attraction opportunities as you are always on the look out for them.

Motivated By External Factors
This is the most common type of motivation. You fall into this category if your motivation is due to:

- Wanting to fulfill the expectations of other people
- Force by circumstances beyond your control to do something
- Promise of a great reward (Lottery falls into this category)

People in this category will not take any action unless there is a reason rewarding enough or more typically painful enough for them to take action and do something. Their motivation will only last long enough for them to achieve the minimum requirements to satisfy and remove the external factors (pushing or pulling them).

The people in this group tend to attract more external factors that will push/pull them by virtue that they wait for something to happen!

Illustration
Lets say if you have a kid who is self motivated, they study on their own, request for help if they need, join study groups and generally get good grades (because they put in the effort). Would you bother as much to push them? Probably not.

Lets say again that you have another kid that just study enough to pass test and exams and occasionally fails exam but do not put in the effort to study harder. Would you, as parent set targets for him, send him to tuition classes, nag at him, force him to study? Probably so.

Could you see how the the Law of Attraction is working here? I think you would :)

So Which Do You Belong Too?
I used to be in the second group. Now I am somewhere in between but moving slowly but surely into the first group of motivators. What about you?

Share your thoughts simply by voting in this small survey that I have set up. :)

Cheers,
James

A Summary Of 9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation

Hey Folks,James Avatar

It’s been slightly more then 2 months since I wrote my first post on the “9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation” series. It started with the simple vision that I wanted to pen down my success formula that I had put together through years of trial and error at my own cost. I wanted to share it with you and others like you who are interested to help yourself, which is probably why you are sitting here reading this blog.

I believed that abundance starts with giving and sharing. By sharing this gift, I believed that I will attract more into my life. More experience to gain, more positive people to meet, more things to learn and a more fulfilling life.

It is also my hope that my 9 steps has helped at least some of you in some ways. If it did, thank you. I thank you because, you made my sharing valuable and meaningful. If it had help no one or motivated none, it would have been futile. So, Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

If you have benefited from this series, I welcome you to leave a note or comment here. If you have any suggestion for me to improve, you may leave it here too :)

9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation: Study Your Reflections

Hey Folks,

Todays topic is “Study Your Reflections”. This is Step 9 in “9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation”.

No, I’m not talking about the reflection of yourself in your mirror although it is a good analogy. What I would like you to study are the factors that contributed to your success or failure to achieve your goal.

Like the old Chinese proverb - “Failure is the mother of all success”. If you happened to miss your goal, study why you missed it. Learn from it and progress.

If you are successful in achieving your goal. You also need to study the factors that contributed to your success.

So why do you need to study the factors that contributed to your success? Since you already understood the success formula (whether it is our 9 steps or other formula) and had just successfully implemented it to achieve your goal, you would think that you would able to replicate the success in future goals right? I would say, not necessary. So why it that the case?

What you need to understand is this, most (if not all) success formula is a process. It is a process that if it is understood correctly, applied correctly and under similar circumstances, it would guarantee a success! So let me spell the factors out clearly in point form. For any formula, secret, technique or whatever process to guarantee a success, the applicant needs:

1) To UNDERSTAND the process correctly;
2) To APPLY the process correctly; and
3) To apply process under SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES.

If you had applied any process before and wonder why it did not work for you but it supposedly worked for a great number of other people, it is very likely that you had learned/applied either 1, 2 or all 3 of the points wrongly.

Here is an example:

“100 person were taught a process to earn big money in the share market. At the end of 1 year, only 10 consistently made big money from share trading. 30 of them just broke even (made some and lost some). 30 of them made some and lost a lot. 20 of them still playing virtual trading and last 10 is still figuring out where to start.”

For those 10 that made it, they not only understood what was taught but understood how to apply the process and techniques correctly and knew under why market condition to apply the process. More often than not, they bother to asked their mentor, seek clarification when in doubt and practice what was taught consistently.

For those 30 that broke even, they probably got factors 1 and 2 correct but failed to grasp the market condition and hence could not consistently produce the same desired result.

For the 30 that made loses trading shares, they probably got factors 2 and 3 wrong or all 3 factors wrong! So when they do make some money, it was probably due to blind luck and the only consistent think they produce was money losing trades.

Oh and forget about the last 2 group, they could not even bother to start the real thing. These are procrastinators!

So whats the point of this story? The point is the second and third group could have improved their situation to become like the first group. By reflecting on those times they failed to understand the contributing factors and also to study the times they were successful and find out exactly what made it successful.

By applying the knowledge gain from this self reflection sessions, you will then be able to mold your future success by avoiding the factors that causes failures and attract factors that favors success!

And you know what? It all begins from you! You have to be willing to reflect on yourself. Yes you do celebrate each success but after each celebration, sit down and find out what made it a success. Then make doubly sure that the success contributing factor there on your journey to your next goal!

So have you recently reflected on any of your success or failure? Now is your turn to talk :)

Love,
James
